Douro Valley Wine Tour from Porto

August is a hot month to go to the Douro valley and we experienced temperatures over 40 Celsius. From pick up in Porto to drop off expect 9-10 hours. Some in our group were apprehensive about exhaustion and cabin fatigue. However in two vehicles we had a great time. Our driver, Alvaro, is professional, helpful and kept the interaction engaging and informative. Two wineries before and after a cruise gave us scenic views from the hill and valley. The guides at the wineries are knowledgeable and eager to share their stories and answer questions. We are all more aware of wines and port now. This was by far the best tour we had in Portugal.

We were picked up very close to our accommodation, as no vehicles allowed in our street. Driver/Guide was bang on time. A total of 8 persons in the comfortable VW people carrier. The driver had water for us all in a cool box, which was extremely welcome later in the day, to not only combat the alcohol but also the extremely hot weather, 39c at one point! Two Port vineyards, an hour ling boat trip on the Douto River, and a delightful lunch at an old school, high up in the mountains, made for an excellent day. Oh, and I forgot to mention, plenty of Port and Douro Wine tastings! An excellent day out, to locations that bigger vehicles could never reach, which made it all the better, in my opinion. For just a little bit more cost, I would say "go for it, you won't regret it!"
